More and more organizations today find themselves having to find and exploit new
ideas and opportunities in order to adapt to the growing competitive pressure and the
changes in customers’ needs.
Successful innovation has been and will always be a collaborative process between
people and rarely the work of a single person.
In most organisations, ideas undergo a constant process of review and refinement. It
is the end goal for the best ideas to surface. Through collaborative innovation,
people get to work hand closely with one another and possibly spot flaws or
mistakes that one can’t. Working together opens the space for constructive feedback
and allows for more creativity. As the saying goes, two heads really are better than
one.
New perspectives are also brought out when working together. Organisations can
harness and make full use of the insights and energy of all their people to get the
spectrum of thoughts and opinion – possibly affecting and improving the initial idea.
Through innovation, ideas go through a process of examination and improvisation.
Encouraging companies to come together to collaborate in order to innovate, SICC
strongly believes that the fastest way to innovate is to collaborate. Through SICC’s
Collaborative Innovation Interest Group, we aim to champion fresh initiatives that will
help uplift the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore.
“I attended my first Collaborative Innovation Interest Group meeting in July 2019
where the discussion and presentation were on a collaboration between Bosch and
UIB on Smart Buildings. In this instance, Bosch provided the building while working
with UIB to “smarten” it so that Bosch folks can work and interact more effectively
and efficiently.
“I was intrigued and impressed by the technological advancement made and it led
me to ponder upon how else such AI-driven technologies can enhance not just our
industry and company, but also for folks in their everyday routine activities.
“Where possible, I look forward to participating in the discussions in this Interest
Group with the intent to learn how other companies and organizations are
collaborating and innovating to make the lives of their stakeholders better,” said
Bernard Chua, Managing Director, CYC Movers (Commercial) LLP, a member of
SICC’s Collaborative Innovation Interest Group.
This collective effort truly enables greater productivity and is key amongst
businesses. Through this ongoing effort, we can all look forward to constant
improvements and fresh ideas.
